The Challenge: Geneva, Nebraska, had an old pool and was concerned about keeping citizens in the community. These seemingly disparate concerns were closely linked in the minds of Geneva leaders, who knew that high-quality recreational opportunities play a vital role in retaining residents. They wanted a modern pool to attract new residents and keep current ones.

The Solution: Our Aquatics team was hired as the engineers for the new aquatic facility and bathhouse in Geneva. Our Funding and Community Engagement teams were also brought on to facilitate public involvement, project vision guidance, governmental regulations, funding planning, a bond referendum, and capital campaign efforts. Now open, the new heated pool is 5,600 square-feet with zero-depth entry, lap lanes, slides, water playground and walk, and an in-pool climbing wall.

Project Benefits: The most important benefit of this project is that this new aquatic center is attracting people to Geneva. Local leaders have seen pool attendance increased four times above attendance rates of the old pool. What’s more, residents have explicitly stated that the modern pool is a valuable asset and makes them want to stay in town. With robust public engagement efforts, public support was successfully achieved throughout the community and the bond referendum passed.
