Hayes, Hitchcock, and Frontier Counties are updating their Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) with assistance from JEO Consulting Group. An HMP is a community-guided document which identifies vulnerability to natural and man-made hazards and mitigation projects to reduce or eliminate such risks. Having an approved HMP is a requirement of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for jurisdictions to become eligible for several grant funding options. Having an approved and updated plan enables jurisdictions to be stronger and more resilient by:
- Reducing your jurisdiction's risk and impacts from disasters;
- Gaining eligibility for pre- and post-disaster mitigation grants; and
- Builds partnerships and relations with stakeholders.
Hazard Mitigation Plans are required to be updated and approved every five years. The counties last updated their HMP in 2018. The counties, communities, schools, fire districts, irrigation districts, stakeholders, and neighboring jurisdictions are invited to participate in this process by attending meetings and providing information for the plan.
This planning process includes public meetings to provide an opportunity for plan participants and interested stakeholders to learn about the plan and provide input. In order to be a participant in the plan, FEMA requires at least one representative from your jurisdiction to attend planning meetings. Please attend one of the upcoming meetings shown below. Each meeting will last approximately 1 hour and can be attended in-person, virtually online, or by phone.
If you are joining online or by phone you can access and download your jurisdiction's meeting worksheets starting August 22nd by visiting this Google Drive link: https://bit.ly/HHF-HMP.
Please RSVP to one of the meetings by contacting Anthony Kohel at (402) 474-8753 or akohel@jeo.com.
